2015 Spring

Welcome back to the Spring-2015 semester!

This semester we will continue our discussion of Mark Edmundson’s Why Teach?: In Defense of a Real Education (Bloomsbury, 2013). I welcome other readings and items of interest, though, if you would like to share them. Please find PDFs of the book on this site, under “Pages & Files.”

We will be meeting on the following Wednesdays, 11:30-12:30 in KCTL (M-391): March 18th, April 15th, and May 13th. I look forward to seeing you there!

2014 Fall

Welcome back to the Fall-2014 semester!

This year we will be reading Mark Edmundson’s Why Teach?: In Defense of a Real Education (Bloomsbury, 2013), as a means of guiding our discussions of Honors Education. I welcome other readings and items of interest, though, if you would like to share them. Please find PDFs of the introduction and first essay in the book on this site, under “Pages & Files.”

We will be meeting on the following Tuesdays, 11:30-12:30 in KCTL (M-391): September 23rd, October 21st, and November 18th. I look forward to seeing you there!

2014 Spring

This spring we will be meeting on the following Wednesdays, 1:50-2:50: March 26, April 23, and May 21. Suggested discussion topics include:

  • Practicalities of teaching Honors at KCC Clarifying what an honors student in a community college is
  • Ways to engage honors students through class-related civic-engagement projects
  • Best strategies are for enriching a STEM course versus arts and humanities courses
